What Happened?
I can remember when I was younger, my Grandfather told me stories of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. He told how Martin and Malcolm stood for what they believed in, they had dignity, integrity and respect for their fellow man and woman. I can also remember my Uncle Kenny telling me about the Black Panthers and how the took control with actions and words in an more aggressive manner. They were both sharing the personal accounts of stories that took place in the 60’s and mid 70’s. A time before all races could go to the same restaurants, stores, and LIBRARIES!…. A time before the internet. The irony of those times and now is that as a society it was much more difficult but they still found a way to make some type of change/difference in the universe. It saddens me to look at our generation when we have so much more than they could have even imagined would exist, from Google, to twitter, to facebook, to public access to libraries and so many other freedoms. With these new freedoms it seems as if our “Give a Damn” has gone away. I listen to the music we put out… I hear more ignorance and disrespect than I even care to count… Us as men are not setting the example for the ones after us, and the women are not making a man want to be around you; let alone make you a wife. I look at the videos we put out… and I see more thug mentality being glorified and it seems if you not a whore as a woman your non-existent. Its truly sad because we have more now than the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s combined and we do absolutely nothing with it…. Our generation needs to wake up NOW or we won’t have a tomorrow to look forward to let alone the children after us. I wrote this “What Happened?” just to spark the great minds that we all have. To WAKE UP, and be Great as GOD planned for us to be… We are the Apple Generation, the Hybrid Generation, the 4G Generation, lets do remarkable things with the tools we have been blessed with and INSPIRE and Achieve that greatness that we are letting pass us as each day goes by.
